Applications are invited for the position of Laboratory Services Manager at BCAST, Brunel University London. BCAST is a speciality research centre focusing on solidification related research with an international reputation and is the host of the national centre of excellence in liquid metal engineering (the Future LiME Research Hub). Our research covers fundamental research, technological development and industrial applications in the field of solidification and materials processing. The Advanced Metal Casting and Advanced Metal Processing Centres are new on-site state-of-the-art scale-up facilities that bridge the gap between fundamental research and full-scale industrial production/manufacturing. 

This role will play an essential part in driving toward the BCAST 2030 vision by managing the day to day activity of a team of technicians across several laboratories. The laboratories engage in a range of research and development from a fundamental atomic scale through to large industrial scale processing.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: 

  • Define, market and develop laboratory services to external customers.

  • Manage the delivery of services to ensure on time delivery to defined specification.

  • Implement and continually improve the Integrated Management System for BCAST’s Research Laboratories. A key part of the role is to oversee and implement the highest standards of operational Environmental, Health and Safety.

  • Establish the role as the key focal point for the day to day management of Laboratory delivery for all stakeholders.

  • Set up monitoring systems where appropriate for performance and utilisation of facilities.

  • Play a leading role in developing the BCAST Technician team to support the organisational goals to acheive the BCAST 2030 vision.

  • Line manage BCAST technicians where appropriate for day to day issues and workload to meet service and delivery needs.

The role will suit candidates who have experience in laboratory management including the delivery of services and operations to support organisational goals.  Experience of developing relationships with potential customers and stakeholders will be a necessary and important advantage.
